Frequently Asked Porcelain Veneers Questions
What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic material that are permanently bonded to the front surface of your teeth. Each veneer is custom-made for you and color-matched to blend in with the surrounding teeth. They can be used on either the top or bottom teeth or both.

When are porcelain veneers used?

Porcelain veneers are used to cover many minor dental problems like:

•  Chipped and/or broken teeth
•  Crooked or unevenly worn teeth
•  Gaps between teeth
•  Crowded teeth
•  Stains due to injury, root canals or because of certain drugs like tetracycline
•  Discolored fillings

What are the benefits of porcelain veneers?

Fast: Porcelain veneers are a relatively quick way to create a dramatically different smile. Because they cover your existing teeth, they can cover small defects like misaligned teeth, crooked teeth and stains, without extensive and time-consuming orthodontic correction.

Stain-resistant: Porcelain is highly resistant to staining. With proper brushing and regular check ups, your porcelain veneers will stay beautiful and white for many years to come, even if you drink coffee, tea or wine on a regular basis. They are also resistant to nicotine staining.

How do porcelain veneers look?

Placed correctly, porcelain veneers look virtually identical to real teeth. The porcelain has slight variations in color just as regular teeth do.

While porcelain veneers are as durable as natural teeth, they are not impervious to damage. Anything that will break a real tooth can break a porcelain tooth so you'll want to avoid biting down on really hard objects or using your teeth as a bottle opener!

A qualified cosmetic dentist can design and place porcelain veneers that will blend in almost perfectly with the rest of your natural teeth.
